Access your dedicated or colo server with IP-KVM
Use the IP-KVM (KVM over IP) device we provide — open the remote console with the IP, username, and password from your welcome message.
This is hardware KVM over IP for dedicated servers and colocation. You open a remote console on a device we provide, using an IP (or URL), username, and password. It is not the VPS browser console in the client area.
What you receive from us
Your welcome message (or a follow-up ticket) lists:
- IP address or a URL for the KVM web interface
- Username
- Password
Those credentials belong to the KVM device, not to the operating system on the server. You still log in to the OS with the OS user once the console is open.
Open the IP-KVM console
- If you cannot find the KVM details, log in at clients.crservers.com and check the service notes or the ticket that delivered them (or the welcome message).
- From a computer that can reach that IP, open the KVM web UI in a current browser — HTTPS to the IP, or the URL we sent.
- Accept the device certificate warning if the browser shows one. Self-signed certificates are common on these devices.
- Sign in with the username and password we supplied.
- Open the remote console (HTML5 or Java, depending on the device). If the OS login screen needs it, send Ctrl-Alt-Del from the KVM toolbar — not from your local keyboard alone.
When IP-KVM helps
- BIOS or boot-order changes
- The server is up but SSH is down (firewall lockout, failed network change)
- Installing or recovering an operating system
- Confirming the machine is actually powered on and posting
Prefer SSH on the dedicated server for daily work. The IP-KVM is for break-glass and install work.
If the device does not respond
Open a ticket if the KVM IP is unreachable or the credentials fail. For colocation, a person at the rack may also be needed — see remote hands.
