Install WordPress with the one-click installer

Install WordPress from the web hosting control panel with Themely, at the domain root or in a subfolder, and remove the default index.html page.

The web hosting control panel includes Themely, a one-click WordPress installer. It creates the database, downloads WordPress, and sets up the admin user. You don't need to upload files over FTP or create the database by hand.

Before you start

  • Decide where the site goes. At the domain root (https://yourdomain.com) or in a subfolder (https://yourdomain.com/blog).
  • If it goes at the root, remove the default page. New accounts come with a welcome index.html. If that file stays at the root, visitors may keep seeing the default page instead of WordPress. See "Remove the default page" below.
  • If the domain still points to another server, finish the DNS change first or test with temporary domain access.

Open the installer

  1. Open the hosting control panel from the client area.
  2. In the side menu, open Hosting Features → Themely. It's also on the panel's home page, under the additional features section → Themely.
  3. The WordPress Installer page opens. The form on the left installs WordPress; on the right, Appearance shows optional themes.

Fill in the form

Field What to enter
Site Title The site's name. You can change it later in WordPress.
Site Description A short line about the site. Also changeable later.
Admin Username The user for logging in to the WordPress admin. A name is suggested; you can change it. Avoid admin.
Admin Password That user's password. One is generated; you can replace it with your own strong password.
Admin Email The admin's email. WordPress sends notices and password resets there.
Web Protocol With or without www, and http or https. Choose https if the domain already has SSL (see SSL and dedicated IP).
Domain or Subdomain The domain or subdomain for the site.
Directory Leave it empty to install at the root. Type a folder name (for example blog) to install in a subfolder.

Check Your new site URL: it shows the site's final address based on your choices. If it isn't what you expect, fix Web Protocol, Domain or Subdomain, or Directory before you continue.

You don't need Advanced Settings for a normal install.

Optionally, pick a theme under Appearance with Select (or look at it first with Preview). You can skip this and choose a theme later in WordPress.

Save the admin credentials

Copy Admin Username and Admin Password somewhere safe, such as a password manager, before you install. They're your WordPress login.

If you lose them, use the lost-password link on the WordPress login screen; the reset email goes to the Admin Email.

Install

  1. Click Install WordPress.
  2. Wait for it to finish. It can take a few minutes; don't close the page while it runs.
  3. The site is listed under WordPress Manager, below the form. From there you can access and manage your WordPress sites.

Log in to the WordPress admin at https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin (or https://yourdomain.com/blog/wp-admin for a subfolder install) with the username and password you saved.

Root or subfolder

  • Domain root (Directory empty): WordPress is the main site. This is the usual choice for a new site.
  • Subfolder (Directory with a name): WordPress lives at yourdomain.com/<folder> and the root stays free for something else, such as an existing site you're adding a blog to.

If you'd rather use an address like blog.yourdomain.com, create the subdomain in the panel first, then pick it under Domain or Subdomain with Directory empty.

Remove the default page

If you installed at the root and still see the CR Servers welcome page:

  1. Open the file manager.
  2. Go to the site's root folder.
  3. Delete index.html (or rename it, for example to index.html.bak). WordPress uses index.php, which the installer puts in the same folder.
  4. Reload the site in your browser. If you still see the old page, clear your browser cache.

Don't delete other files at the root unless you know what they are: .htaccess, wp-config.php, and the wp-* folders are part of WordPress.

The database

The installer creates the MySQL database and its user for you and writes them into wp-config.php. You'll see it in the panel's databases section. Don't delete it or change that user's password without updating wp-config.php, or the site will stop loading. More in MySQL databases.

If something goes wrong

  • The site shows an error or a blank page after installing: make sure the domain uses a current PHP version.
  • The install doesn't finish or fails: don't retry over and over in the same folder: a half-finished attempt can leave files or an empty database behind. Open a ticket with the domain, the folder you chose, and the time you tried.
